  • Overview

    We are looking for a professional and experienced Electrical Engineer in the medical device field to design, develop and test software and circuit-board hardware for a surgical device. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, detail-oriented, hard-working individual with an analytical mindset, capable of producing quality technical solutions by way of clean and flawless code. The person must be able to work under pressure conditions, be able to prioritize work according to the given deadlines, and possess excellent time management and communication skills. The ideal candidate has experience in embedded systems.


    • Confirm product requirements by reviewing project objectives.
    • Formulate program specifications. Interface with 3rd party designing hardware and prototypes.
    • Review software and circuit board hardware of embedded device from 3rd party consultant.
    • Evaluate, source and requisition the necessary components and materials to support model changes and prototype construction.
    • Integrate and validate new product designs.
    • Confirm program operation by conducting tests. Plan and develop test programs for prototypes.
    • Analyze test data and generate reports determining if designs meet functional and performance specifications.
    • Troubleshoot system, malfunctions, bugs and issues.
    • Prepare flow charts and diagrams to explain program logic and operation.
    • Maintain historical records by documenting program development and revisions.
    • Prepare manufacturing instructions and other reference documents for product fabrication.
    • Collaborate with technical writers to create documentation for product user support.
    • Provide post-production technical support to the manufacturing group.
    • Recommend cost improvement ideas through product, vendor, and design changes.


    • Proven experience in developing embedded systems and installing them into devices. Strong knowledge of the interaction between hardware & software.
    • Proven experience with system-level design work involving microcontrollers, digital signal processors and support circuits.
    • Proven experience using PCB trace layout software, procuring PCB’s (board “spinning”) and proto-boarding (soldering wires and/or components to PCB’s).
    • Good knowledge of electrical and medical device safety standards
    • Good knowledge of best-practices for installing and securing PCB’s into devices safely and reliably.
    • Good knowledge of best-practices for interfacing PCB’s with user controls and indicators on a device.
    • Good knowledge of coding techniques and software development guidelines (e.g., MISRA) that address code safety, security, portability and reliability.
    • Experience with the operation, configuration and motion control of brushed and brushless DC motors, including encoder-based positioning and speed control.
    • Experience with the operation and power regulation of Light Emitting Diodes (LED’s).
    • Experience with the management and monitoring of battery power consumption for embedded platforms.
    • Experience with exception/error handling for embedded programs that use the aforementioned hardware (DC motors, LED’s, batteries).
    • Familiarity with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer review.
    • Proven ability to read and understand component data sheets and circuit schematics.
    • Strong documentation and writing skills.
    • Cursory knowledge of assembly language is a plus.
